Venture Ideas

The first product I think of is the temperature window. The function of the temperature window is to convert the heat from the outside to the cold air that release inside. It can also functions in the opposite way, which is converting the cold hair from outside to heat, and then release the heat inside. Temperature windows are different in sizes from the normal windows. They are thicker than the normal windows because there are many technologies and converter running between the two layers of windows. Our target customers are houses, apartment, companies’ buildings, hotels and etc. The temperature windows can be installed on the external wall of the building. These windows will then provide them with heat in the winter and cold air in the summer. The delivery system of this product will be around the whole world. Since airplane shipping is expensive and also limited in the amount, all the orders will be transfer by ships across the ocean. The point of sale system of this product would be just simply an electronic system which received orders, sent out orders, payment and etc. I think the temperature window is a good idea because it can help to create sustainability in our environment. In today’s society, people started to become more and more aware of the pollution and environment. Temperature windows, which can replace the air conditioners, heaters, fans, are more environmentally friendly. And that’s what many people are looking for in the future.

Another service I think of is the motivating course. The service will base on a program that lasts for 1 week. In that 1 week, participants will have different workshops, experiences that can guide them to find the value of life. The target customers for this service are mainly teenagers between 14-20 years old, which is a period of rebellion for many youths. After attending the course, the participants are expected to change from head to toe, to a totally different and more mature people. There will not be any delivery services because it is the participants, that want to sign up, come to the course center by themselves. I think this is a really great business idea because I was one of the participants that attended a motivation course in Hong Kong. This course really changed me a lot from a rebellious to what I am today. It made me realize what the real purpose of life is. Therefore, I believed that the course would definitely have the same, positive impact on them just like me.

Sustainability Research

The company I did my research on is Flowserve, which is one of the world's leading providers of pumps and services. Flowserve has a program called the Bay Day, where the employees and their families gather at the Flowserve Chespaeake Bay facility, and collect litter from 415 miles of shorelines and waterways of the Chesapeake Bay. In 2010, the volunteers and boaters collected 179,000 pounds of litter on the Bay Day. This program does not make any quantifying evidence of profits, because it is just a program where voluneteers sacrifice their own time and collect garbages that people dump along the bay. This program will absolutely affect me as a customer, because I consider myself as a green person; and when I see corporations are doing the same actions as me, it is more likely for me to purchase their products.

Business Ethics Reflection

After watching the videos about business ethics and corporation responsiblities, I am amazed by what many low-wages workers are going through, and also the pollution that corporations around the world do to our environment. To many corporations, money is their bottom line; which means what they really care is only money. Making profit become their only goals in their careers. These goals often blind them from looking deeply into the workers level and their outside surroundings. Many workers work at factory are getting a suprisingly low salary.However, many of them are choosing to stay because they have families to support. Many companies sell their products at a high price, and make great amounts of profit; but only a very tiny percentage of the profit are pay toward to the workers. I think this is very unfair to workers at the factories, because they spend alot of time everyday doing the same thing over and over again. In return, they only get pay with few cents a hour.
